Health officials say 4 more Boise, Meridian bars may have had COVID-19 exposure

The Central District Health warned people Tuesday that four more Boise and Meridian bars were identified as potential risks for COVID-19 exposure.

The CDH said more Boise and Meridian establishments were identified as potential COVID-19 exposure locations during an illness cluster involving downtown Boise bar-goers.

The number of cases in the illness cluster from June 5 and 6 rose from an initial 10 cases to 34 confirmed cases and 3 probable cases. Most of those cases were people in their 20s to 30s and only reported mild to moderate symptoms.

Officials say four people visited several bars June 7, 9, 10 and 13:

  • Matador – Exposure Date: 6/7/20
  • Vista Bar - Exposure Date: 6/9/2020
  • 9th Street Nook - Exposure Date: 6/10/2020
  • The Breakaway Café & Spirits - Exposure Date: 6/13/2020

Officials also said 10 people visited six bars in the area of 6th and Main Streets while infectious on the evenings of June 5 and 6:

  • Amsterdam Lounge – 609 W. Main St.
  • Cactus Bar – 517 W. Main St.
  • Humpin’ Hannah’s – 621 Main St.
  • Silly Birch – 507 W. Main St.
  • StrangeLove – 100 S. 6th St.
  • Tom Grainey’s – 109 S. 6th St.

The CDH says anyone who visited those locations near those dates should watch for symptoms anywhere from two to 14 days after exposure.

“We recognize and commend businesses who are working hard to reduce risks for patrons and staff, but we know the reality is that some of our community members are becoming infected with COVID-19 and showing no symptoms or initially experiencing mild symptoms," CDH said, "and they’re out in public unintentionally exposing others. These could be our friends or family, so each of us needs to be accountable and maintain heightened awareness."
